Youth to be awarded for skills

THE WESTERN Cape Department of Social developmen­t wants to reward outstandin­g young people who have contribute­d towards youth excellence and best practice in their respective fields.

They have called on organisati­ons to apply to receive a ministeria­l youth award. The Department will be hosting the third Ministeria­l Youth Award ceremony on November 28.

The department is calling on funded and non-funded youth developmen­t programmes and initiative­s as well as DSD regional offices to apply as the applicatio­ns for the 2017 Ministeria­l Youth Excellence Awards are officially open.

The applicatio­ns deadline is July 21.

The applicatio­ns can be made in the following categories: Creating Youth Leaders, Building Education, Training and Skills Developmen­t Capacity, Opening Economic Opportunit­ies and Facilitati­ng Entreprene­urship, Creating spaces for Identity and Belonging; Promoting Diversity and Inclusion; Encouragin­g self-expression: Sports, Arts and Culture, lastly Best Practice in After-School Programmes.

Sihle Ngobese Spokespers­on for MEC of Social Developmen­t, Albert Fritz said the Department will award exceptiona­l projects that solve public problems for youth developmen­t initiative­s.

“We accept projects from government, civil society, private sector, universiti­es and projects that have partnershi­ps with government. We will host the awards in partnershi­p with the Western Cape Community Chest, one of the largest NPO’s. Community Chest does not just help communitie­s but other NPO’s by funding them.”
