Youth to be awarded for skills
THE WESTERN Cape Department of Social development wants to reward outstanding young people who have contributed towards youth excellence and best practice in their respective fields.
They have called on organisations to apply to receive a ministerial youth award. The Department will be hosting the third Ministerial Youth Award ceremony on November 28.
The department is calling on funded and non-funded youth development programmes and initiatives as well as DSD regional offices to apply as the applications for the 2017 Ministerial Youth Excellence Awards are officially open.
The applications deadline is July 21.
The applications can be made in the following categories: Creating Youth Leaders, Building Education, Training and Skills Development Capacity, Opening Economic Opportunities and Facilitating Entrepreneurship, Creating spaces for Identity and Belonging; Promoting Diversity and Inclusion; Encouraging self-expression: Sports, Arts and Culture, lastly Best Practice in After-School Programmes.
Sihle Ngobese Spokesperson for MEC of Social Development, Albert Fritz said the Department will award exceptional projects that solve public problems for youth development initiatives.
“We accept projects from government, civil society, private sector, universities and projects that have partnerships with government. We will host the awards in partnership with the Western Cape Community Chest, one of the largest NPO’s. Community Chest does not just help communities but other NPO’s by funding them.”
