4 in court over club owner’s murder

- NONTANDO MPOSO

FOUR suspects were to appear in court today in connection with the murder of Bronx nightclub owner Bruno Bronn.

The four were arrested over the weekend and had been charged with murder, said police spokesman Warrant Officer November Filander.

Bronn, 50, was found by his domestic worker at his Green Point home on Ocean View Drive last Tuesday. He was lying on his back on the floor, tied up and with marks around his neck.

A close friend said last week that days before his death Bronn seemed scared and traumatised and confided that he was receiving threats and being harassed by someone. A laptop and Bronn’s white BMW 320 were stolen.

Frederick “John” Coetzee, 36, was arrested in his flat in Bo-kaap on Saturday, and a 29year-old man from Salt River and a 35-year-old man from Goodwood were also arrested in connection with Bronn’s murder. A dark blue Toyota Condor, which police believe was used on the day of the murder, was seized in Goodwood.

Also on Saturday, a 35-yearold man from Brooklyn was arrested near Albow Gardens on Koeberg Road after police received a tip-off. Bronn’s BMW was discovered in a complex in Parklands that day.

Phillip King, former owner of Bronx and a friend of Bronn, said he was impressed by the swift police work.

“Congratulations to the SAPS for sorting out the crime and making arrests so quickly.”

King said a memorial service would be held for Bronn “once the dust has settled”, within the next two weeks.

Filander said more charges could be added to those faced by the four men.
