TODAY’S MODERN WOMAN faces myriad skin problems. Skin ageing is accelerated by stress and fatigue that come with a fast-paced lifestyle. Couple that with environmental exposure to cell-damaging free radicals and your complexion is left looking dull and tired. Thankfully, a powerful skincare solution like The History of Whoo’s illustrious Hwanyu line can defy the effects of time and urban living.

The prestigious range, which means “returning youth”, takes inspiration from royal herbal remedies used by Eastern empresses centuries ago. These reinvented formulas aid in cellular recovery, while deeply nourishing and balancing skin’s yin and yang. Their potency is attributed to Paljinbojeongdan, a complex formula consisting of 70 precious oriental herbs that offer skin rejuvenation and long-lasting hydration.

Serving as a complement to the existing line, The History of Whoo has launched the Hwanyu Imperial Youth First Serum. It sports royal purple bottling like the rest of the range and has a curved golden cap that symbolises modern opulence.

As a first-step serum, it’s best used immediately after cleansing to experience the three-tiered anti-ageing benefits, named Ikjin, Hwadam and

Soseng. Washing your face can strip your skin’s natural oils and lipids that make up the epidermal barrier. The Imperial Youth First Serum makes up for this loss of moisture with Ikjin, which is a stage when hydration is locked within your skin and the protective film that acts as a shield for skin is replenished.

The second step, called Hwadam, sees the serum acting as a base to enhance the efficacy of subsequent products. Skin that’s hydrated and repaired lays the foundation for regeneration and better absorption of more nutrients.

Soseng, the last stage, revives dull complexions as the formula infuses skin with youthful vitality in rapid time. Skin is immediately brightened with a healthy glow.

Wild Ginseng Pill is the serum’s star ingredient that is made using the brand’s patented Hundred Boiling Method. Whole wild ginseng is boiled for 100 hours in royal earthenware to obtain potent active substances, which are then converted into pill form. Hwanyu Dongandan, a complex of 11 herbal formulas, complements the precious ingredient to add luminosity to skin.

For best results, apply the serum on freshly cleansed skin. Dispense a peasized amount onto your palms and allow yourself to relax as you inhale the subtle floral scent of the serum. While skin is still moist, apply the serum evenly on the face and neck. Continue your routine with the Hwanyu signature ampoule, eye cream, essence and cream for the face and eyes.

The Hwanyu Imperial Youth First Serum currently retails at $426 (usual price $669), and is available in limited quantities in-store and online only at TANGS at Tang Plaza, TANGS Vivocity, Takashimaya Department Store and BHG Bugis Junction. Every purchase of the serum also comes with a complimentary 50ml bottle of Hyangridam Eau De Parfum Royal Peony worth $258.
