EDITOR'S NOTE

- KENNETH GOH

There maybe two sides to a coin but there are so many facets that make up a complete fashion magazine.

This month, I wanted to focus on the less obvious sides of fashion, beauty, jewellery, travel, men and culture.

Our cover stars, Freen and Becky, both from Thailand, are leads in the latest Asian phenom called girls’ love (GL) drama series. Thailand is something of a factory when it comes to churning out boys’ love series, but

GL series have been catching up—and to much fanfare with international audiences as far afield as Mexico.

Freen and Becky have become the ultimate poster girls for the genre, shooting to overnight fame in 2022 when they were coupled as the leads of Gap: The Series. In our cover shoot, both Freen and Becky show a softer side to their on-screen characters with a sensuality that’s both vulnerable and desirable. See and read what they have to say about acting and their lives on page 91.

In jewellery, we always admire the 5Cs of a diamond, but beyond the obvious, what motivates us to part with our hard earned money on a sparkling bauble?

On page 66, we present stunning sets of haute bling with that extra je ne sais quoi that you can’t say no to. On the beauty front, our senior beauty editor Arissa Ha looks at the glasses that best flatter your face, introducing pretty hues and clever techniques to ensure your peepers look anything but short sighted (page 58).

Then onto fashion. Beyond outfits plastered with logos (is that still a trend?), there’s the sensual side of fashion. Think gossamer fabric, the use of print, the incredible lightness of feathers, the sexy feel of leather on skin and the whisper of silk and satin on your bare body. We feature them all in our style section, from page 32 right to the emotive shoot by creative director Windy Aulia on page 100. It’s best summed up in our feature on what women want (page 48). The zeitgeist, despite Covid and working-from-home, has made women more confident, and emboldened them with sartorial fearlessness as they take a real joy in dressing up again.

In BAZAAR Man, we turned our lens to Thai K-pop star Ten Lee, who carries barely there clothing with such aplomb. See him in all his Saint Laurent glory on page 83. And let’s not forget the importance of grooming for the man in our lives. Beyond a facial wash, a quick shave and some deodorant—he needs to be well protected from harmful UV rays too. Lastly, we meet the owner of a brutalist home, who marries her love for art, two teenage daughters, a dog and a fabulous wardrobe into a home that’s built from the ground up and full of dreams that takes you sky high.

Whether it’s feathers with leather, silk with concrete or something as simple as masculine with feminine, it’s all about a beautiful mash-up, polar opposites included. Enjoy the process!
