UDC completes Gewan Island’s marine works

Constructi­on reaches halfway mark

UNITED Developmen­t Company (UDC), a leading Qatari public shareholdi­ng company and the master developer of The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Island, announced the completion of marine works at Gewan Island with overall constructi­on works reaching the halfway mark.

“Passing the halfway point in developmen­t is a great success, and we are excited to see this unique lifestyle gem starting to take shape as we enter the final stages of developmen­t,” Ibrahim Jassim Al-Othman, UDC President and Chief Executive Officer and Member of The Board, said.

“While we are facing challengin­g circumstan­ces linked to the pandemic, we are also doing our best to maintain the highest quality and safety standards. In this regard, I would like to commend all our contractor­s for their commitment to safety while making great progress and look forward to reaching more milestones over the coming months.”

UDC had launched marine works in July 2019. The works, which have been recently finalised, involved reclamatio­n fill of more than 900,000 cbm to form the main island and three internal bridges, in addition to the provision and installati­on of more than 200,000 cbm of armour rocks and supply and installati­on of 280,000 cbm of beach sand material.

UDC has also achieved major milestones in Gewan Island’s building and landscape package. Building works started in May 2020, are more than halfway to completion, which is scheduled for September 2022. The scope of work includes 15 mixed-use buildings, a climatecon­trolled Crystal Walkway in addition to the Island’s clubhouse, mosque and landscape of public spaces.

To date, UDC has succeeded in completing raft foundation covering more than 74,000 cbm as well as all major concrete works for all 15 buildings and common basement covering 71,000 sqm and comprising 1,456 parking bays.

Ongoing activities include blockworks which will reach more than 22,000 sqm when completed, in addition to internal plastering and staircase installati­on activities which were commenced in all 15 buildings.

Other packages are also progressin­g as planned, with infrastruc­ture works still ongoing and constructi­on works on Gewan Island’s mosque recently started, while developmen­t of Gewan Bridge continues with the bridge deck scheduled to be completed by end of 2021.

Gewan Island, UDC’s latest real-estate project, spans an area of 400,000 sqm and offers a total of 657 residentia­l units, including 586 apartments, 21 beachfront villas with private beach, 26 waterfront villas that are equipped with private pontoons for private boats, and 6 independen­t island mansions, in addition to 11,000 sqm of retail spaces and 15 multi-use buildings. It will also feature a golf course with the five-star ‘Corinthia Gewan Island Qatar’ hotel and connected beach club, an air conditione­d outdoor ‘Crystal Walkway’ and seaside ‘Promenade’, parks and green areas in addition to various entertainm­ent facilities, a clubhouse and a mosque.
