People need to join forces and demonstrate solidarity against the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and can gradually bring things back to normal with a little sacrifice, HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari has stressed.

In her message on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, published on the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH)’s website, HE Dr al-Kuwari said: “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations wishing you and all Muslims many happy and prosperous returns of the holy month.

“The holy month of Ramadan this year will, undoubtedly, be different, particularly with the unabated prevailing Covid-19 pandemic and the rise in the number of people infected with the virus,” she said, adding: “The current situation compelled the competent authorities to take the hard decision of reinstating some of the restrictions which had been imposed earlier.”

“We realise that these restrictions would perhaps cause some change to the traditions that we usually follow during the holy month, including social get-togethers, family gatherings and other practices specific to the holy month, but we ought to persevere and abide by the applicable precautionary measures until this pandemic is over,” HE the Minister said. “We need to join forces and demonstrate solidarity against this pandemic, and with a little sacrifice, we can gradually get back to normal.”

She continued: “I am sure that, together, we will get over this pandemic and our community will enjoy health and well-being.

“With the high pace of the Covid-19 vaccination process, we began to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and tomorrow will be, Insha’Allah, better.”

HE the Minister took the opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation to all healthcare workers for their pivotal role, hard work and relentless efforts in standing up against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Our healthcare teams are our soldiers in white, standing on the frontlines to protect the community,” HE Dr al-Kuwari said. “Despite the rising number of infected patients, which place additional burdens on these workers, they are steadfast in carrying out their noble mission and national duty with great dedication.”

“The least we can present to these heroes is our commitment to protect the individual and the society against Covid-19 by following the precautionary measures and physical distancing,” she added.

HE the Minister concluded: “May God save our beloved country from evil. We wish you all a happy Ramadan. Stay committed and take your vaccine, let us all be healthy and safe.”
