Joel Lamangan’s In The Name of the Mother big winner at Manhattan filmfest
Joel Lamangan’s In The Name of the Mother was a big winner at the 11th International Film Festival of Manhattan (IFFM) Spring 2021 in New York City, held last May 30.
The movie bagged the Jury Award Best Narrative Feature Global; Jury Award Best Performance of the Film Festival Grand Prize and Film Festival Director Best Actress Award, both for Snooky Serna; Film Festival Director Award for Best Screenplay for Eric Ramos; and Honorable Mention (Best
Actress) for Rita Daniela.
“The film is a tribute to all the mothers who make a lot of sacrifices,” said Lamangan. “It’s the story of Carmen (played by Snooky), a woman with three kids who was abused and abandoned by her husband. But she learns how to move on as a grade school teacher who puts up her own business and succeeds as an empowered woman.”
Daniela is Precious, the only daughter of Carmen, who is always in conflict with her.
Also in the cast are Teroy Guzman as Marcial, Carmen’s husband; Diana Zubiri as Rowena, the mistress of Marcial; Gardo Versoza, the new man of Carmen; Pancho Magno and Migz Cuaderno, the other two children of Carmen; Jennifer Sevilla; Empress Schuck; Jim Pebanco, Vince Rillon; Tabs Sumulong; and Rico Barrera.
The film was produced by Harlene Bautista’s Best Entertainment and co-produced by Dennis Evangelista and Ferdy Lapuz.
The film festival featured films from the US, Canada, France, Nigeria, India, Nepal, Tibet, United Kingdom and the Philippines.

It is also committed to exploring all opportunities to promote the artist, his work, his vision and his cause if he has any, during the showing of the films and the events during the festival.
