Jeep launches new lower-priced Renegade, Compass

- By MANNY N. DE LOS REYES

JEEP has unveiled new, and more importantly, lower priced editions of two of its SUV’s to bolster its Philippine lineup.

The new Jeep Renegade, which previously started at just under P2.2 million, now starts at P1,640,000 for the Longitude variant. The higher end Renegade Limited stickers at P1,790,000.

Think of the Renegade as the starter model in the Jeep range. It’s ideal for those who want to experience the Jeep lifestyle without going anywhere near the P3 million-plus prices of the Jeep Wrangler or Grand Cherokee.

Notable for its scene in Batman v

Superman: Dawn of Justice as Bruce Wayne’s matte black SUV racing through a city’s destructions, the Renegade shares the uniqueness and youthful spirit of the pioneering Jeepster. Starting with the iconic seven-slot grille, the body takes on a more modern look while keeping the rugged and sporty Jeep stance. The new Renegade comes with 17inch alloy wheels, signature round headlamps with daytime running lamps, and a full sunroof.

Inside, there’s a six-speaker, voice-operated seven-inch touchscreen audio system powered by UConnect 4 with Apple Car Play, Baidu carlife, and Bluetooth connectivity. The cargo area has its own with compartment cover and lamp while the 60/40 split-folding rear seats allow various cargo/ passenger configurations.

The new China-made Renegade is powered by a new 1.4L turbo fourcylinder engine with Engine Stop Start, mated with a seven-speed dual-dry-clutch transmission, producing 147hp and 230Nm of torque. Parking is a no-brainer with ParkView Rear Back-up Camera and ParkSense Rear Assist System.

Jeep further beefs up its portfolio with the arrival of the new Compass. Initially displayed at last year’s Manila International Auto Show, the P1,850,000 Compass finally arrives on Philippine soil.

Looking like a downsized Grand Cherokee, the Compass strengthens its muscular and upscale profile with a 17’ Fine Silver aluminum wheels with all-season tires, sporty headlamps, daylight running lights, dual-pane sunroof, and LED taillamps.

Inside, the likewise China-made Compass is equipped with a seveninch touchscreen display with six speakers powered by UConnect 4 system with Apple Carplay, Baidu CarLife, Bluetooth, and integrated voice command. The rear seats can be folded 60/40 while the cargo area comes with a compartment cover, lamp, and tie-down loops. The side roof rails provide secure attachment points for your sports equipment.

The Compass is powered by a 1.4L MultiAir Turbo Engine with Engine Stop Start, partnered with a sevenspeed Dual Dry Clutch transmission, producing 162hp output and 250Nm of torque. Parking is a breeze with the ParkView Rear back-up camera and ParkSense Rear Park Assist system.

Just like all Jeeps, the Renegade and the Compass take pride in their safety features. Both vehicles are equipped with active safety features such as All Speed Traction Control, Anti-Lock 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, Battery Run Down Protection, Electronic Parking Brake, Electric Power Steering, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Electronic Stability Control, ParkSense Rear Park Assist System, ParkView Rear Back-up Camera, and Next-Generation Airbags.

Auto Nation Group (ANG), the official distributor of Jeep vehicles in the Philippines, strictly enforces sanitation and disinfection measures for the general safety of the public. All vehicles that go in and out of the facility undergo disinfecting using mist blower. All personnel strictly adheres to proper hygiene and social distancing practices. Daily sanitation process is implemented across all dealerships.

And since it’s the first time Jeep is launching two different new models at the same time, ANG is throwing in an additional P50,000 discount for the Compass and Renegade until June 30.
