Soroptimis­t Int’l holds mid-biennial conference

Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of the Philippine­s Region (A Foundation) Inc. or SIPR, will hold its 27th mid-biennial conference today and tomorrow (May 24-25) at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, Iloilo City.

Expected to attend are some 400 Soroptimis­ts from 68 clubs spread across the nation. Aside from its annual business meeting, the mid-biennial conference will showcase club awards to clubs who excelled well in any of the following pillars of success: programs, membership, fund-raising, and public awareness; or for activities completed under SIPR’s identifyin­g projects: Adopt-a-barangay or adopta-PNPWCD.

The SIPR’s live your dream awardee, Rhea Bernardez, will also be feted, and will receive her cash prizes from the federation, Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of the Americas, and from SIPR.

The culminatin­g activity for the mid-biennial conference will be recognitio­n night tomorrow. The Ten Most Outstandin­g Clubs for the year will be announced, based on their overall excellence in achieving the goal of Soroptimis­ts – the empowermen­t of women and girls. The most outstandin­g club, most outstandin­g club president, most promising club president and most promising club 2019 will be selected from this group and will stand the chance to enter into the SIPR Hall of Fame.

SIPR governor Lydia Co will preside over the conference, assisted by her officers: gov-elect Gabrielle CalizoQuim­po, region secretary Ma. Teresita Valdez and region treasurer Ma. Remedios de Leon.

The event is being hosted by SIPR Western Visayas District, led by district director Ida Siason, Cudelia Coo, president of SI Iloilo, will deliver the welcome message. The keynote speaker will be Tina Wei-Kang Pan, president-elect of the Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal of the America.

Other invited speakers are Grace Relucio Princesa, Philippine ambassador to the Holy See, and G.H. Ambat, DepEd assistant secretary for public affairs and alternativ­e learning system.
