MCF Global Nat’l netfest on in Davao

-

Multi-titled John David Velez goes for another two-title sweep even as Ma. Angelica Novis tries to make it three in a row in the ongoing PPS Mac Crankit Foundation Global National tennis tournament at the GSIS Tennis Club in Davao City.

Velez dominated the Actifit Open in Valenzuela City last January, making the Davao native the player to beat in the tournament serving as part of Davao’s 82nd anniversary.

The five-day event is also held in partnership with the MCF Foundation, an Australiabased non-profit organization whose aim is to help change lives and empower underprivileged communities through sports.

Out to foil Velez’ bid are Bruce Hurtado, Ryan Alga and Khobe Dumlao in the boys’ premier 18-under division and Andrei Lago from Sogod, Leyte and Nikhel Nowlakha from Iloilo in the 16-U.

Puerto Princesa’s Kendrick Bona also eyes titles in the 12 and 14-U class where Nicholas Tan from Diplog, Ben Flores, James Aquino, Reyman Saldivar Jr. and Andre Sing are chief contenders.

Novis sets out for another sweep of the girls 16 and 18-U crowns where she faces stiff challenge from siblings Juliana and Colleen Carvajal, Zkyla Cervantes and Theresa Nacito.

Juliana Carvajal leads the title chase in the 14-U along with Jemarie Manggarai, Khirylle Saldivar and 12-U top seed Chelsea Bernaldez.
