Roads closed, traffic rerouted around 6 cemeteries

Several roads will be closed while traffic will be rerouted around six cemeteries in Metro Manila tomorrow as the public observes All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, authoritie­s said yesterday.

The cemeteries included in the rerouting scheme are Manila North Cemetery, Himlayang Pilipino, Eternal Garden Memorial Park, Novaliches Cemetery, Holy Cross Memorial Park and Parokya ng Pagkabuhay Cemetery, according to the Metropolit­an Manila Developmen­t Authority (MMDA).

Starting 10 p.m. today onwards, the stretch of Aurora Boulevard from Dimasalang to Rizal Avenue, the stretch of Dimasalang from Makiling to Blumentrit­t, the stretch of P. Guevarra from Cavite to Pampanga, the stretch of Blumentrit­t from A. Bonifacio to P. Guevarra, the stretch of Retiro from Dimasalang to Blumentrit­t Extension and the stretch of Leonor Rivera from Cavite to Aurora Boulevard will be closed, the Manila Police District-Traffic Enforcemen­t Unit (MPD-TEU) said yesterday.

For the Manila North Cemetery, the MMDA said trucks and buses from Balintawak going to Manila should turn left on Sgt. Rivera street, right on D. Tuazon and right on Calamba.

Drivers of private vehicles, jeepneys and taxis going to Manila should go through Mayon street, turn right on Retiro, left on Dr. Alejos, right on Don Manuel Agregado and cross to Blumentrit­t street.

For those coming from San Francisco del Monte, they should turn left on Mayon street and proceed to their destinatio­n.

The MMDA said the outermost westbound lane of A. Bonifacio Avenue from Mayon-Del Monte and A. Bonifacio intersecti­on up to Calavite street will be partially closed to traffic to give way to cemetery visitors.

Ipo, General Tinio, Abao, Labo and Bulusan streets will serve as parking areas for visitors of Manila North Cemetery, except the outermost northbound lane of A. Bonifacio Avenue, from C-3 to Calavite street, the MMDA said.

Craig, Simon, F. Huertas, Sulu and Oroquieta streets and the stretch of Metrica have also been designated as parking areas for Manila North Cemetery visitors, according to the MPD-TEU.

For Himlayang Pilipino, the MMDA said Himlayan Road will serve as the entry point for vehicles while Philand Drive Subdivisio­n will serve as the exit point. Another exit is St. Anthony School Road to Napocor Village.

The designated parking areas are Himlayan’s park office, near Emilio Jacinto Shrine and Fensjuio Park. No parking will be allowed along the entire stretch of Tandang Sora Avenue and Himlayan Road leading to the cemetery.

Motorists will not be allowed to enter Novaliches Cemetery. Those coming from General Luis street should turn right on Doña Isaura and use Sarmiento street as an exit point to Quirino Highway.

Motorists going to Caloocan North, Green Fields 3 from Quirino Highway should take Susano Road on the way to BF or Bagumbong, Caloocan City.

Motorists will be allowed to park on one side of Millionair­es Subdivisio­n. The entire stretch of Gen. Luis street, from Susano Road to Doña Isaura street, is a no-parking area.

Other road closures for Holy Cross Memorial Park, Parokya ng Pagkabuhay Cemetery or Bagbag Cemetery, Baesa Cemetery and Eternal Garden Memorial Park are available on their website and official social media pages.

Four major roads near the Manila South Cemetery in Makati City will be closed to traffic starting at midnight tonight: Kalayaan Avenue (from Zapote to N. Garcia), South Avenue (from Metropolit­an to J.P. Rizal), Vito Cruz Extension (from South Avenue to Zapote) and Pililla street (from J.P. Rizal to Kalayaan Avenue), the city’s public safety department said.

The PSD said two-way traffic will be implemente­d along JP Rizal street (from Pasong Tirad to Makati Avenue) and Kalayaan Avenue (from Pasong Tirad to Zapote street).

One-way traffic will be observed on Kalayaan Avenue (from N. Garcia to Makati Avenue) and on Metropolit­an Avenue (from South Avenue to Nicanor Garcia street).

The roads will be closed until midnight of Nov. 2.

The MMDA also announced that the number coding scheme will be lifted for six days, starting today until Monday, Nov. 5.

The agency initially announced that the number coding scheme would be suspended only on All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, both of which are non-working holidays.
