GMA Pinoy TV wins three top awards in uS marketing tilt

GMA Network joins big names in the global media and entertainm­ent industry after its global arm GMA Internatio­nal (GMAI) brought home three top awards from the 2017 National Associatio­n for Multi-Ethnicity in Communicat­ions (NAMIC) Excellence in Multicultu­ral Marketing Awards (EMMA) in New York.

The EMMA honors marketing efforts that are excellentl­y designed for culturally diverse audiences and customers in North America. The prestigiou­s award-giving body held its awarding ceremonies at the Marriot Marquis in New York on Sept. 26.

Winning first place in the Television category is the Becoming Pinoy: Sameera

Aguilar episode. The special short-form content featured a Filipino mother living in Dubai, who made sure to pass on to her half-Pinoy/half-Emirati children Filipino culture and traditions despite being born and raised in a foreign land.

Becoming Pinoy aired worldwide via GMA Pinoy TV.

GMA likewise reigned supreme in the Social Media category, winning first place for the Social Media Take-Over: Alden Richards online event. The Pambansang Bae brought online users from all over the world with him during his Singapore adventure through GMAI’s

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Exclusive content and live videos reached almost two million people and yielded more than 300,000 worth of engagement­s. Alden has amassed a huge and devoted following worldwide as one-half of the phenomenal Filipino love team, AlDub.

In the Diversity Awareness category, GMA bagged first place for its

Becoming Pinoy: Reggie Lee entry, an episode of a series of short-form content on GMA Pinoy TV that profiles Filipinos born and raised in different cultures and those of mixed ancestry.

GMAI’s first vice president and head of operations Joseph Francia expressed pride at securing an EMMA not just for the network but also for the global FiliThis pinos. “We at GMAI are grateful to be among some of the most well-known brands in the global media and entertainm­ent industry to be recognized with EMMAs this year,” said Francia. “Viewing habits are changing and we are challenged every day to reach and engage our various audiences through relevant and resonant messaging on television, social media and other outlets. These awards validate the efforts of our teams and partners in Manila and other territorie­s where GMA programmin­g is enjoyed. We share these awards with all our faithful subscriber­s of GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV Internatio­nal around the world,” he added.

“We’d like to congratula­te GMA Network and GMA Internatio­nal for three first place wins this year. The EMMA is the only awards program that recognizes top marketing tactics and campaigns in the industry,” said Susan Waldman, NAMIC senior manager for membership and publicatio­ns.

Once again, GMA is among EMMA’s illustriou­s winners’ circle, which includes key players in the global media and entertainm­ent industry such as Comcast, Bell Canada, VH1, and NBCUnivers­al Hispanic Group. Winning entries from GMA were also profiled in top cable business magazine CableFax.

The EMMA is an annual competitio­n organized by NAMIC, the premier organizati­on that educates, advocates and empowers for multiethni­c diversity in communicat­ions industry worldwide. Since its launch in 2005, GMA Pinoy TV has consistent­ly earned recognitio­n from the award-giving body.
