Palace adopts NEDA’s 25-year dev’t program
Malacañang has adopted the 25-year long term socioeconomic vision of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) as a guide for socioeconomic development planning.
NEDA’s Ambisyon Natin 2040 is a report on the aspirations of Filipinos within the next two decades — roughly one generation — on the improvement of the standard of living, finances, security and ease of transacting with the government.
The survey, which was initiated last year and completed in February, revealed most Filipinos desire a “simple and comfortable life” defined as having the following comforts: a car, a medium sized home, the ability to send all their children to college, taking occasional trips around the country, and occassionally enjoying leisure time with family and friends.
NEDA estimates this middle class living standard centered on the family requires a gross monthly income of at least P120,000 at 2015 prices for a family of four. This income level was arrived at considering the amortizations that would have to be made on a car, a house and lot, taxes that would have to be paid, and allowances have been made of needs and exigencies.
The respondents further defined a ‘simple and comfortable life’ as a life with their families that is “free from worry and hardship.”
As a country, Filipinos envision a Philippines that is a predominantly middle-class society that enjoys good governance and a society with peace and order.
President Duterte signed on Oct. 11 Executive Order No. 5 mandating the economic planning agency – until 2040 – on the overall goals of Ambisyon.
“The PDPs shall ensure sustainability and consistency of strategies, policies, programs and projects across political administrations,” said the EO.
