Tabuena, Que banner Phl bid in World Cup
Miguel Tabuena finally gets to play alongside Angelo Que after a failed Rio Games partnership as they team up for the World Cup of Golf set Nov. 23-27 at the Kingston Heath Golf Club in Australia. Tabuena, who placed 53rd in a field of 59 in the recent Olympic Games, has picked Que as his partner in the upcoming event which drew 56 of the world’s top players from 28 countries, including defending individual and team champions Jason Day and Adam Scott of Australia. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to play in my fourth World Cup of Golf and I must thank Miguel for picking me as his partner,” said Que, a threetime Asian Tour champion who skipped the Rio Games due to Zika virus concerns.
Que teamed up with former three-time Philippine Golf Tour Order of Merit winner Tony Lascuña in the 2013 edition of the event but the duo struggled to finish 23rd at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
This time, Que is upbeat of their chances with Tabuena, the reigning PGT OOM champion, enjoying top form.
“Miguel has developed into a top player so I’m looking forward to playing and partnering with him for our country,” said Que.
“My best finish in the World Cup team format was tied 10th in 2008 and I’m confident Miguel and I can strike up a good partnership and fly the Philippine flag high in Australia,” added Que.
But as in past World Cup editions, the field is teeming with talents with England to be led by Masters champion Danny Willet and Lee Westwood while Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker head the US team and Korea to be spearheaded by Byeong Hun An and KT Kim along with Ireland’s Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell, Germany by Alex Cejka and Stephan Jaeger, Fiji by Vijay Singh and Krishna Singh, Belgium by Thomas Pieters and Nicolas Colsaerts and France by Victor Dubuisson and Romain Langgasque.
