FVR keynotes Global Youth Forum
Former President Fidel Valdez Ramos exhorted some 500 youth leaders from across the country who took part in the recent Global Youth Forum 2015 held at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.
Ramos, the founding chairman of the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation Inc. (RPDEV) and senior advisor of the International School of Sustainable Tourism, encouraged the participants to keep tab of Philippine history and be an active participant in its development.
Organized by the ISST and Agrea Agricultural Systems International Inc., the three-day forum aims to create awareness on the opportunities in the tourism industry, and highlight lessons from the world’s successful tourism ventures.
The event is supported by the Department of Tourism, Philippine Tourism Promotions Board, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Commission on Higher Education, Agrea, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority ( SBMA), Pagcor, Globe Telecom, Unesco Club, and North Luzon Expressway.
Forum participants recommended investments in technology of the hospitality industry, incorporate personality development/and work ethics, and creation of hands-on opportunities to learn equally with theory.
Keynote speaker former Agriculture Secretary William Dar cited the four development goals for the agriculture sector, which include food sufficiency and diversification into high-value commodities, and economic security for farmers and fisherfolk.
Dar batted for nutritional sufficiency for crops and commodities to meet the people’s dietary needs, and environmental security for the sustainable management of natural resources.
The forum included five sessions, namely “The Country’s Future – Getting Youth into Tourism Jobs”; “Sowers of Change – Education”; “Creating Opportunities for Dialogue and Encounter – Social Media and Information Technology”; “Economic Development in the Countryside versus Environmental Concerns”; and “Global Market for Local Talents – ASEAN Youth on the Move.”
