A hilarious ‘funraising’ for Hands On Manila
Wh a t started as a fundraising affair for Hands On Manila ( HOM) ended up as a hilarious evening for this nonprofit organization that promotes volunteerism in the Philippines. Aptly called “Fun Raising” at the Manila Polo Club, the evening started with three rounds of “Friendly Feud,” a tweaked version of popular TV game show Family
Feud, with teams composed of long-time supporters and converted volunteers, entertained us all with their humorous answers.
Friendly competition with longstanding unwritten rivalries, plus the wit of event host RJ Ledesma, made for an unforgettable night of camaraderie. The crowd was entertained by three sets of competing groups that tried to top each other’s answers to questions on everyday matters.
The first set was the Young (a group of 20-somethings) led by Anton Cojuangco and Daniel Romero-Salas versus the Restless (parents, aunts/uncles of the young group) led by Anton’s mom, Lizette, and Daniel’s, mom, Gianna
Montinola. The second round had old rivals Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University aspiring to be the most knowledgeable with the group of
Mon Paterno and Rene Banzon from Ateneo versus the group from La Salle led by Francis Moran and Aldo Alejandro. After a tight race, Ateneo proved victorious, being more adept at enumerating things like “noises people can’t prevent themselves from making.”
The final and perhaps the most entertaining duel saw the Bold team led by media personalities Tessa Prieto Valdes and
Pepper Teehankee, versus the Beautiful team of Sandy Moran and Ana Ugarte. After some comical banter, the Bold team had a narrow victory with a “steal” from Tessa who answered “Beauty Parlor” to the question “Where do women go to get away from their husbands?”
All proceeds of the entertaining evening will go to the training of volunteers for HOM’s projects that assist children and the elderly, the environment, education, and community development. Definitely a super fun evening for a very worthy cause.
