House commends BAFI for The Mind Museum
Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc. (BAFI), proponent of The Mind Museum located in Bonifacio Global City, was awarded a commendation by the House of Representatives. In House Resolution 269, BAFI is recognized for establishing The Mind Museum, “the first world-class science museum to promote science learning in the Philippines."
The resolution was authored by AGHAM Party- List Rep. Angelo Palmones and Una Ang Pamilya Party-List Rep. Reena Concepcion Obillo. It acknowledges The Mind MuseumÕs role in promoting science and technology, which are Òrecognized drivers of economic development and progress.Ó It also cites The Mind MuseumÕs potential to be a major tourist destination that will benefit the countryÕs economy.
BAFI expressed their appreciation for the commendation. The Mind Museum Operations Manager Chiqui Batac said, ÒWe welcome that the government lauds us for putting up and maintaining a Science learning facility. The Mind Museum was built to help improve Filipinos" Science literacy in an engaging, effective way. We believe that Science is vital in the progress of our country, and we are proud that we are taking part in this mission."
The Mind Museum opened to the public in March 2012. The museum was fully funded by private donations from corporate sponsors, family and individual donors. The P1-billion project benefited in its planning stage from international experts like the Science Centre Singapore and Jack Rouse and Associates (Cincinnati, USA). National Geographic is an institutional partner. But making it a pride of the Philippines was the team of architects, designers and fabricators who are all Filipinos. Designs were by Filipino artists working with Filipino scientists and engineers to flesh out a Science principle or fact. Ninety percent of the exhibits were done by carefully selected local fabricators who also do work for science museums abroad.
