Mandaue among country’s ‘most improved’ cities

-

The City of Mandaue was named as one of country’s most improved local government units this year in the latest Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI).

Mandaue ranked second in the most improved highly-urbanized cities, followed by Bacolod City. Iloilo City topped the list of most improved cities.

The city government placed 13th of the most competitive cities, and was adjudged seventh overall in economic dynamism.

As for the Government Efficiency category, the city government clinched the 20th spot.

Mandaue City Councilor Carmelino Del Mar Jr., on behalf of the city government, Mandaue City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Eric Mendoza, and Mandaue Investments Promotions Action Center Chief Kristian Cabahug received the awards from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Thirty-three cities and municipalities throughout the country competed in this year’s CMCI, a DTI initiative program.

The CMCI ranks cities and municipalities based on an overall score using four pillars: government efficiency, economic dynamism, infrastructure and resilience.

The higher the score of a city or municipality, the more competitive the local government unit (LGU) is.

This year’s CMCI was based on a survey conducted from February to May of this year and covered 1,508 LGUs.

The winners were recognized during the 6th Regional Competitiveness Summit held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City last August 16.

For Central Visayas, a total of 11 LGUs in Cebu got 21 different recognitions, while 12 LGUs in Bohol province got 20 citations

Four LGUs in Negros Oriental, on the other hand, got four accolades.—
