Three drug personalities were arrested and more than P200,000 worth of suspected shabu were seized in two separate operations in Cebu City last Saturday.

Around 3:20 p.m. Saturday, operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a buy-bust operation in Spolarium Street, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, where Romulo Fernandez Alvarez, 52, and his commonlaw-wife, Juvalyn Garingo Alvarez, 42, both residents of the said barangay, were arrested.

A total of 150 small packs and three medium packs of suspected shabu weighing 15 grams and estimated at P177,000 were seized from the two.

Chief Inspector Christopher Navida, chief of City Intelligence Branch, said barangay officials tipped them off about the illegal activities of the two. He added are also in the Barangay AntiDrug Abuse Council's drug watch list.

"Sa tulong ng local officials na mismo nagbigay ng information naging sakit ng ulo nila doon sa lugar. Nasa BADAC list ayaw pa rin sumoko, ‘yun (drugs) na lang ang napagkuhanan nila kabuhayan," he said.

Navida added that the couple's source is now the subject of a follow-up operation.

Around 10:30 a.m. that same day, Punta Police Station personnel arrested Rodolfo Dela Cruz Luna Jr., alias "Kelly." Two small and one medium pack of suspected shabu estimated at P59,000 were seized from him.

All suspects are set to face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meanwhile, anti-illegal drug operatives seized almost P74,000 worth of illegal drugs in separate buy-bust operations in Lapu-Lapu City last Thursday. Eight persons were also arrested in the operations, including two employees of the Lapu-Lapu City Hall.

Senior Inspector Joey Bicoy, officer-in-charge of the Gun-ob Police Station, said Ariel Licayan, 37, and Yolando Dungog, 57, both of Purok Bombshell, Barangay Babag, and Arje Berame, 35, of Purok Saging, Barangay Canjulao, were arrested around 11:55 p.m. after allegedly trying to interfere in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Babag while drunk.

The buy-bust operation led to the arrest of Mario Augusto, 49, of Purok Bombshell, and Jena Amoin, 33, of Zone Lato, Barangay Calawisan.

Licayan works for the Youth Affairs Office of the Lapu-Lapu City Hall while Berame works for the City Treasurer's Office. Police said the two, along with Dungog, tried to interfere while they were taking inventory of the evidence seized from Augusto.

"They were arrested for obstruction of justice and disobedience," Bicoy said, adding that they defied the warning from the responding police personnel.

At least 18 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 0.72 grams and estimated at P8,496 were seized from Augusto and Amoin. Drug paraphernalia such as disposable lighters, an improvised tooter, and P600 in suspected drug money were also confiscated, Bicoy said.

Around 8:30 p.m. of the same day, Senior Inspector Genesis Aniversario of the Lapu-Lapu City Police OfficeCity Intelligence Branch and his personnel arrested Von Dominique Nombrado, 35, in Purok Mangga, Barangay Canjulao.

Aniversario said they confiscated 11 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 1.55 grams and estimated at P18,290, as well as P600 in suspected drug money from Nombrado, a resident of Purok Yellowbell, Barangay Looc.

Around 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jovanie Tumulak, 39, and Jack Amores, 39, were arrested in Barangay Gun-ob with 15 small sachets and two medium packs of suspected shabu estimated at P47,200.
