DPWH begins construction of drainage
Traffic in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City will continue to be slow as the construction of a drainage project has started last week and is expected to last for six to eight months.
The drainage project is a move to address flooding problems in the area.
Initially, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) eyed to construct two outfalls in Barangay Bulacao and Barangay Tabunok leading to Mananga River.
DPWH Cebu 2nd Engineering District Head Leslie Anthony Molina had earlier said they refused to start excavating before they have determined the proper outfall of the drainage system but eventually decided to start in Bulacao.
"Madali man gud siya kung sa Bulacao lang kay kung adto sa Tabunok, daghan sakyanan ug daghan maapektuhan nga manindahay maglisod, " he told reporters.
They are presently studying the elevation of the drainage if Bulacao can accommodate all the drainage water including from Tabunok.
"Tan-awon ang survey sa elevation para ihagbong sa Bulacao kay basin madala ra sa Bulacao kay dako man ang sapa sa Bulacao, " he explained.
But if turns out that the Bulacao outfall is not sufficient, they will construct the second outfall in Barangay Tabunok going to Mananga river.
The exact length of the drainage project in Bulacao is one kilometer and 60 meters and will end up in Tabunok.
Bulacao Barangay Captain Raul Cabañero earlier said that the drainage project was pushed by Congressman Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas with an appropriated budget of P50 million from the DPWH.
Cabañero has earlier asked the understanding of constituents and motorists to bear with the slow traffic movement. Augmented traffic enforcers have been deployed by the City of Talisay Traffic Operations Development Authority to man the traffic flow.
