Metrobank names CCPO chief among 10 Outstanding Filipinos

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Senior Superintendent Joel Doria was awarded as one of ten Metrobank Outstanding Filipinos for his groundbreaking accomplishments in the campaign against all forms of crimes.

The operation Oplan Pokemon, which adopted its name from a virtual mobile application with the catchphrase “'catch them all,” was first initiated by Doria.

POKEMON stands for Pakigbatukan Og sumpuon ang Krimen ug ang Epekto sa illegal nga Makadaut Og makaguba sa Nasud.

“Cebu City is very delighted to announce (Doria) is usa sa napulo ka napili sa outstanding Filipinos of the year sa Metrobank Foundation Inc. Sa napulo ka winners, 3 sa ilaha police,” CCPO Spokesperson Chief Inspector Ramoncelio Sawan said.

The career-service award is meant for exemplary Filipinos in the academe, military and police sectors.

Four teachers, three soldiers, and three police officers are this year's awardees who will each get a P1 million cash incentive, a gold medallion and trophy.

The awardees were chosen by a board of judges chaired by Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, and co-chaired by Quezon City Fourth District Representative Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr., and other distinguished personalities.

“Medyo metikuloso sa ilang parameters sa pagpili, after sending the nominations to them, nagpadala pa gyud sila og validators. So dili lang kay gibasa nila ang report, nagpadala pud sila og tawo arun susihon kung tinuod ba ang report,” Sawan said.

From August 2016 - July 2017, 1,786 individuals including bigtime drug personalities were arrested under Oplan Pokemon.

Oplan Pokemon yielded 2,578.476 grams worth of illegal drugs valued at P15,434,749.45, unlicensed firearms, 383 video karrera machines and P87,382.75 cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drugs and gambling.

Since the operation was first launched, no complaints had been lodged before the Commission of Human Rights for any form of human rights violations.

Among Doria's accomplishments as CCPO director is the resolution of numerous pending cases involving robbery, murder, and illegal drugs.

“Para sa mamamayan po ng Cebu City yung award at sa masipag nating kapulisan po. Sobrang saya po lalo na sa overwhelming support ng community at ng media po pati mga stakeholders po,” Doria said.

Doria added that the P1 million reward incentive will be used for the education of his two children and for the educational support of 36 foster students of CCPO as well as for the future projects of Oplan Pokemon.
