Cebuano dance athletes shine in Blackpool event

- — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol

The Cebuano dancesporters sent a strong message to the rest of the world that they are ready to conquer Blackpool, considered as the mecca of dancesport, after they collected several honors in the Richardz All-England Championships the other day at the Bourneville College in Longbridge Lane, Birmingham.

Dancesport-Team Cebu City mainstays Wilbert Aunzo, Pearl Marie Caneda, Eleanor Hayco and Jimmy Noel together with their tireless coach Loloi Rendon "silently" left the country last week to pursue their longtime dream. They have done a show for the Filipino community in London before proceeding to Birmingham for the weekend competition.

With much support from fellow Pinoys, sweethearts Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Cañeda emerged as champion in the latin pre-championships and fifth placer in the amateur latin.

The tandem of Eleanor Hayco and Jimmy Noel were also unbeatable, coming out as double champions in the senior Latin A and senior Latin B pre-championship.

The FREEMAN learned that Cebuanos Romeo Cialbo and Luzviminda Poitiers also reigned supreme in the standard senior C 3dance.

Ronald Ruiz and Jocelyn Versteeg wound up second in the standard senior B 4-dance and third in the standard senior A 5-dance, while Renante Sanchez and Hanae Mori landed fourth in the standard senior C 3-dance.

After their "warm-up" battle in Birmingham, Aunzo, Caneda, Hayco, Noel and the rest will proceed to Blackpool for the Dance Festival, the longest action covering more than a week among all five major dance events in the said area.
