QC tops MBT North; Manda is South titlist
Mandaluyong emerged as the South champion, while Quezon City topped the North in the 2017 Metro Basketball Tournament (MBT).
Mandaluyong overpowered MMDA, 94-69, to win its division and Quezon City trounced San Juan, 72-54, in their own title clash before a big crowd at the San Juan gym.
The twin victories enabled Mandaluyong and Quezon City to crown themselves as the 24 years old under champions in this tournament organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) thru the Metro Manila Sportsfest and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
The Tigers and the Stars will dispute the overall championship in a best of three encounter starting Monday at the San Andres Sports Complex.
Mandaluyong rode on Cyrus Tabi, who scored 26 points on 10of-16 shooting, and MBT All-Star Game MVP Sandy Cenal, who added 19 points and 14 rebounds to beat MMDA in the two-month long competition which has Mobile App ng Bayan Barangay 143 as presentor, my|phone “Bida ang Pinoy” as official mobile phone, Spalding as official ball, and Synergy 88, San Miguel Corp., World Balance, Higer Bus and One World Music and Sports Inc. as major sponsors.
The Quezon City-San Juan match in the tourney, which is also supported by Excellent Noodles, Nature’s Spring Water, 1-Pacman Partylist, Hopewell Sales Corp., Star Bread, Frabelle Foods, Regan Industrial Sales, Inc., Glitter.ph, Alcoplus and Archie’s Bespoke Bar + Grill, was also one sided.
