Typhoon “Ineng” (international name “Goni”) is already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility but it continues to enhance the southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat.”

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration weather forecaster Shaira Nonot said Ineng left the PAR at around 12 midnight Monday, moving towards southern Japan.

Nonot said even if Ineng is already outside the country’s vicinity, it continues to pull the southwest monsoon inland, which brings rains over the western section of Luzon.

PAGASA has advised residents in Bataan, Zambales, and Pangasinan of frequent monsoon rains, which could trigger flash floods and landslides in mountainous and low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, occasional monsoon rains will be experienced over the rest of Luzon, particularly in the western section.

“Metro Manila will continue to experience light to moderate with occasional heavy rains until Tuesday. Weather condition in the metropolis will gradually improve by Wednesday,” Nonot said.

“Meanwhile, typhoon-affected areas in Northern Luzon, especially in the western section, will continue to experience light to moderate with occasional heavy monsoon rains until Wednesday. Areas in Northern Luzon will begin to experience improved weather condition by Thursday,” she added.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Western Visayas.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.
