Villar vows aid to farmers, fishermen
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Senator Cynthia Villar is pushing for the promotion and development of cooperatives especially in the field of agriculture in a bid to empower the Filipino farmers.
She bared this in the recently held 5th Central Luzon Kooplympics here at Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center last October 19.
Villar promised that she will continue to pursue legislation that will benefit the farmers and fishermen.
She also mentioned the enactment into law of the Republic Act 10848 also known as the Act Extending the Period of Implementation of the Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF) up to year 2022.
According to Villar, ACEF provides education and training as well as opportunities to innovate existing facilities or operations.
Villar said the government is mandated to give its full support to the cooperatives.
Coops and the private sector are partners of government in promoting agricultural-driven growth and entrepreneurial development.
“Nothing can equal the assistance being given by the cooperatives in the development of communities, small businesses as well as to the farmers and fisher folks,” the lady senator added.
Villar also underscored the need for tax exemption of cooperatives and farmers under the TRAIN law.
She claimed that cooperatives have been promoting economic development and social justice, one of the reasons why Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG) was made.
According to her, Villar SIPAG aims to give recognition to deserving cooperatives.
“This December, we will award another batch of cooperatives,” she said. Press Release
