Video of college student singing ‘Reflection’reaches Broadway star

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO— A video of a college student singing “Reflection” has gone viral and reached Filipina singer and Broadway star Lea Salonga.

As of Sunday afternoon, August 12, the video posted by Facebook user Melo Canlas that has 176,000 views and 8,600 likes made rounds online and reached Lea Salonga.

The 19-year-old Canlas is a fourth year college student taking up BS Occupation­al Therapy at the Angeles University Foundation (AUF).

According to him, he always sings in random places especially at school and he made the video during their prelim exams to release his stress and have a good time with his classmates.

He grew up listening to Lea, and loves her way of singing. “She’s amazing and truly inspiring,” stated Canlas.

He also posted it on his Twitter account, went viral and was finally noticed by the singer and actress.

Salonga singer retweeted his video and said: “Yes, it did, and you are stunning!” earning 7,100 likes and 192,500 vi ew s.

Canlas said “I am very happy to be noticed by Lea. For me, that really meant so much since I have been looking up to her ever since.”

Canlas is a product of the Pampanga High School Special Section for Arts (PHS-SSA), where his ability to hit high notes and his voice versatilit­y were molded through theatre acts.

He performed in several theatre plays like Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Miss Saigon produced by PHS.— John Joseph B. Lingad/UA intern
