Ched-Davao oversees over 20,728 scholars
official from the Commission on Higher Education-Davao Region (Ched-Davao) reported that for the academic year 2023 to 2024, there are approximately 20,728 scholars under their supervision.
Dr. Christopher Pio O. Pulido, the supervising education program specialist at ChedDavao, disclosed this during a media interview on Friday morning, May 10, 2024, at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Gymnasium. He added that compared to school year 2022 to 2023 which is 28,476, this year’s scholars have decreased in number.
Pulido clarified that this figure includes students enrolled in state universities and colleges, who are considered government scholars, thus contributing to the increase in numbers.
He also highlighted that the commission administers various scholarship and assistance programs, including those aligned with Republic Act Number 10931 (Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education), such as Ched Tulong Dunong and Tertiary Education Scholars (TES) in local universities and private higher education institutions.
Ched offers scholarships specifically for the children of coconut farmers, with ongoing opportunities. Pulido encouraged those interested to visit the Ched website for online application details.
Regarding the issue of delayed tuition fee payments for Ched scholars, Pulido clarified that the commission acts as an implementer of central office programs.
He said that any remaining unutilized funds revert to the national treasury, underscoring the commission’s commitment to disbursing transferred funds efficiently. (Read full story on sunstar.com.ph/davao)/RGP
