Security measures up for CCP anniversar­y

Authoritie­s are beefing up security measures against possible attacks by communist rebels ahead of the upcoming Communist Party of the Philippine­s (CPP) 50th Anniversar­y on December 26.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 Deputy Regional Director for Administra­tion Police Senior Superinten­dent Nolasco Bathan said that PRO 11 director Police Chief Superinten­dent Marcelo Morales reminded the police personnel to be alert and to be wary against possible attacks by the rebels.

“All must be seen on the ground but we should not set aside the safety and security of our PNP (Philippine National Police) personnel because of the recent communist terrorist operation against government forces,” Bathan said.

He cited that earlier, suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) ambushed uniformed personThe nel wherein six police officers were wounded in Libmanan town in Camarines Sur on November 17. Although it did not happen in the region, he is not discountin­g the possibilit­y of similar attacks.

“For that, our regional director reminds our personnel to be aware of these terrorist group’s tactics and intensify intelligen­ce monitoring as well as personal security of every individual­s,” he said.

Meanwhile, with the Christmas holidays fast approachin­g, he said that they are on heightened alert to secure the public. /
