Davao del Norte — The Provincial Government of Davao del Norte brought the Philippine Federalism information drive in the isolated Talikud Island of Kaputian District, Island Garden City of Samal, recently.

Forming part of the weeklong Festival of Services (FOS), the federalism info drive called DavNor: Byaheng Federalismo, gathered about 50 barangay functionaries from barangays Sta. Cruz, Cogon, Linosotan and Dadatan located within Talikud Island.

Also joining the forum were information officers from LGUs and NGAs based in Davao del Norte.

The Provincial Information Communication and Knowledge Management Office (PICKMO) carried DavNor Byaheng Federalismo as its FOS activity.

“People in Talikud need information on federalism as much as we do. So why not start it from there?” PICKMO Department Head Sofonias P. Gabonada said.

The DavNor: Byaheng Federalismo sprang from suggestions of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Information Center to connect with the Department of Interior and Local Government to roll out grassroots info drive on Philippine Federalism.

Trained speakers of DILG 11 have translated into Visayan local dialect the standard presentation on Philippine Federalism.

DILG 11 project officer Edwin I. Mayormita discussed “Bayanihan Federalism” while Provincial Coordinator for Federalism Melvin Ferdinand G. Gonzales deepened participants’ understanding of federalism by conducting brief learning sessions.
