SBP under-15 finals set

The much-awaited Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) 3x3 Under 15 Regional Finals will be held on September 22 and 23 in a still undetermined venue.

SBP executive program officer Ronel Leuterio, during yesterday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao, said the free-registration tournament opens opportunities for athletes to set foot in a bigger stage and earn scholarships through basketball.

“The (SBP) regional director Glenn Escandor always reminds me to do not mistake activity for an achievement,” Leuterio said.

SBP 11 was inspired to host tournaments like this after the

Cabantian National High School girls’ team brought home the first-ever National Finals gold medal for Davao City early this year.

Leuterio, however, bared that they opened 30 team slots for the boys division and 15 slots for the distaff side for Davao Region.

“We will send invitations to each school including those in Digos City and Tagum City,” Leuterio said.

The Regional Finals winner will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to the National Finals slated October in Manila on top of taking home the P10,000 cash prize.

Each team will be provided with free quality jerseys during the event set to be hosted in a mall or at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
