Friends who go with risks the you take

- BY KARINA V. CAÑEDO

Sometimes there are choices you make that don’t seem to fit.

Even though you did your best to be able to join an endeavor, you will still be tested. Life is not a bed of roses.

I felt like this during our fourhour mountain trek at Tagurano Highlands Resort last Sunday.

I did everything to free my schedule for this trek. I woke up in the dead hours of the morning to prepare everything. I felt so “sabaw” when I hopped in the car of my friends from our martial arts club. I only had one siopao for breakfast.

The trek was awesome. On the first hours I enjoyed the flora and fauna, the trees, the birds, and the fresh mountain air. My spirits were up when we reached a falls which is restricted for swimming. It was good for photos, though.

To satisfy our fondness of water, specifically spring water, the group decided to find Waterfalls #2, which they said is just nearby. We couldn’t find it. A yonder stream became the alternative and there we found tadpoles with big heads. It was around 12 noon.

The group did not stop for lunch as we crossed valleys and plains, and more uphill slopes.

Just as we thought we were about to reach our destination, to our horror, our groupmate said we have to go back down the slope because we took the wrong trail.

Mixed feelings were what I had. I longed for food. I was exhausted. I was grateful for the candy handed to me, and I’m lucky I still had water. But I could not go back there again. I thought I’d rather move forward to the direction of banana trees.

We got directions from residents, but still we had to trek back.

It was really a challenge. Despite the fact that we got lost many times. I really appreciate it. And the hot soup at our friends house couldn’t be more tastier that time.

Indeed, nothing can replace the feeling of accomplishment especially if you have endured something you haven’t tried before.
