Balloon art adds color to celebrations
THE past weeks Facebook had been filled with pictures of graduation celebrations and parties. Filipinos love celebration especially of the special milestones and achievements of loved ones. Aside from the food and the lechon, what makes celebration extra memorable and decorative is when the venue of the party is filled with balloons of different colors, designs, and sizes.
This Filipino’s love for celebrations and her own love for arts and crafts as well as decorating, inspired Marry Rose Silveron of Tagum City to start her own balloon business three years ago. She called this Rosita’s Crafts and Balloons. According to Silveron, her fondness for decorating started when she was still working for a corporate company. Whenever they have events in the office, she gets excited as their department sometimes dolls up the office. Through this, she discovered her skill of creating decorative balloons.
“I didn’t have any background on designing and setting up. Even before, I couldn’t imagine myself making such decorations. Most of my masterpieces were inspired of images from YouTube, Google images and Pinterest. They are my teachers. I believed that instead of attending seminars and workshop, it would be much better if I only watch the videos on YouTube. At the end of the day, the output is still the same, and also economically, workshops are expensive,” said Silveron adding she however plans to attend workshops when she can in the future to further expand her knowledge of the craft.
Her first clients were her friends who knew of her hobby and her talent. From this and because of her good-quality designs, she had been referred to by friends of friends. This was when she got a good hold of the business with continuous of interested clients always celebrating something. This is especially because Filipinos will never run out of events to celebrate.
She started posting her designs on Facebook and it got the interest of different people in Tagum and Davao City.
“So far all my clients are very satisfied with my art and personally, I could not take if there are flaws with my work. As much as possible, I want it to be perfect. I want to see people happy and I love it if my balloons are the reason,” she said.
However, already being in the business for three years, Silveron had also experienced different challenges along the way.
“Having a mode of private transportation would be very helpful since my designs are enormous. I mostly inflate the balloons on site though. However this is not convenient especially with a large number of balloons, because there would be not enough time,” said Silveron hoping that as she would continue expanding her business, she would be able to address
concerns like this. For now, she makes sure her balloons are all inflated beautifully in time for the event.
In the three years, Rosita’s Crafts and Balloons had made a number of birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, and all other events more colorful and more Instagram-worthy. Silveron believes that as long as there is something to celebrate, this kind of business sustains.
“Filipinos love celebrating as a way of thanksgiving. It is our way of expressing our gratitude for the blessings received. Therefore, for every child’s birthday, wedding anniversary, and a lot of celebration we always find budget and time to celebrate it,” she said.
