Transfer of erring cops’ custody to PRO 11 sought

- By Juliet C. Revita

DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) is seeking for the transfer of the restrictive custody of the two rookie police officers involved in the mauling incident of minors last January to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11.

DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said yesterday that he has already endorsed to PRO 11 the administrative case for the two erring cops considering that the case charged against them for grave misconduct is beyond his level of authority.

The cops involved are Police Officers (PO) 1 Jeobani Z. Natividad and PO1 Jesre Masinading. They were found guilty for beating up the minors who violated the curfew ordinance. The incident

was captured by the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).

The criminal case, however, was already filed at the city prosecution office by the minors’ private lawyer.

“I am now requesting our regional director na malipat na ‘yong restrictive custody ng dalawa from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to Regional Police Holding and Accounting Office (RPHAO) para ‘yong regional holding office na ang maghawak ng kaso,” he said.

He is hoping that the transfer will be within this week.

“They will be facing the consequence of their grave offense, unfortunately, as I have been warning my people not to abuse the people particularly their human rights and let us be the exemplar in observing the human rights considering that this is the home of our President and our city mayor is one of the leading crusaders in the fight for human rights,” he added.

He emphasized that he will not tolerate such action of his men.

Meanwhile, to avoid the repeat of the incident, Tagum has subjected his personnel for a reorientation on the how to deal with minors and how to uphold human rights in all their dealings.

“Davao City Police Office has been conducting daily reorientation course on human rights and the proper handling of children in conflict with the law ongoing sa DCPO,” he said.

It is attended by their line unit personnel deployed and in constant contact with people especially when they respond to any call for police assistance.
