Private hospitals promise to monitor Dengvaxia clients
DAVAO City Health Officer Dr. Josephine Villa- fuerte confirms that private institutions that administered Dengvaxia vaccine to some Dabawenyo children have committed to monitor their clients.
“So far after nagkaroon ng issue ng Dengvaxia, so far wala namang problema na dumarating sa amin. Pero yung nakausap ko na mga doctors, sabi nila i-momonitor nila,” Villafuerte said.
Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte in a separate interview advised that parents of those who were able to get immunized with Dengvaxia should better come to the CHO for access of government intervention in case they will contract Dengue.
“Kadtong mga nabakunahan na it will be best kung muadto sila sa City Health Office, and ipakita nila ang ilang records so that duna tay masterlist sa mga individuals na nakadawat sa vaccine para ma monitor nato simbako kung magkasakit sila (Those who were able to get vaccinated,
it will be best if they will go to City Health Office and show their records so that we can have a masterlist of the individuals, to easily monitor them if they get sick),” she added.
She stressed the importance of a masterlist.
“So that kung makasakit sila ug dengue ma-monitor ang ilang status as a patient. Hopefully maka-hatag ug intervention ang government so that dili magworsen ang effects ato nga dengue vaccine (So that if ever they will contract dengue, their status will be monitored. Hopefully the government can give intervention so that the effects of dengue vaccine will not worsen),” Duterte-Carpio said.
The mayor stressed that the city has not dispensed any Dengvaxia and that vaccination through private pediatricians is a parent’s personal choice.
“It is a private choice of the parents, so we cannot hinder them,” she said.
She added that the DOH issued advisory serves as a warning to the parents that they should not go to private institutions for this vaccine.
Based on reports, the Regional Office of Department of Health has already identified three Dabawenyo children which were vaccinated with Dengvaxia.
The DOH in previous weeks has warned about the side effects of Dengvaxia to children who did not have Dengue prior to the vaccination.
This is after a Study of Sanofi Pasteur, the manufacturer of Dengvaxia, shown that the “severe cases” may be experienced by those children who have not yet been infected before vaccination. KVC
