Alejandre dismayed over Jade Valley road damage

DAVAO City Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre expressed his dismay on the abandoned road widening project at the entrance of Jade Valley Subdivision by the Department of Public Works and Highways 11 (DPWH 11).

In his Facebook page, Alejandre uploaded photos and a video clip showing the ruts on the road going inside the subdivision.

He said the subdivision entrance was rendered that way after the road widening project by the project contractor Vic Lao Construction Corporation.

The contractor apparently left the damage it caused unattended, leaving the road bumpy and uneven with many concrete blocks and rocks still scattered around.

Last month, Alejandre sent a letter of grievance directed to the office of DPWH 11 Regional Director Allan Borromeo wherein the councilor said the presences of stones and concrete materials created a risk for possible accidents.

Included in the letter was Alejandre's request for DPWH 11's intervention.

DPWH 11, on the other hand, replied to the councilor through a letter wherein Director Borromeo assured him that the request was already considered and the contractor was already instructed to repair the damaged pavement.

However, Alejandre said there was still no action taken.

In an interview with DPWH 11 Spokesperson Dean Ortiz III, he said the road improvement project near the subdivision is still at its planning stage as its reconstruction was not originally included in the recently completed first phase of the Davao River Bridge Widening project.

"It was only given due consideration upon the request of the Homeowners under the condition that some amount in the form of savings will be generated from the said project," he said.

Ortiz said DPWH 11 guarantees Alejandre and the residents of the subdivision that they will start on the repair as soon as the necessary technical requirements have been completed.
