His favorite steak now a business

WHAT started out as a childhood favorite was transforme­d into a business by an entreprene­ur in Koronadal City while investing on something that the city is not yet known for.

Gab’s Yard Steak House and Grill is a newly-opened steakhouse in Koronadal City owned by George Morales. As a kid, he had watched his mother cook steaks for them and as early as grade school, he had started to learn cooking steaks on his own.

“South Cotabato or Koronadal in particular is not really known for steaks, and I really wanted to create a brand that originated from South and at the same time share to its people the pleasure of eating steaks the right way,” Morales said.

He also shared that opening a steakhouse restaurant in Koronadal City is no easy task as they saw that the first step which is to look for the best local meat supplier is already a big challenge. The USDA Angus or Wagyu meats, which are supposed to be the best choice for steaks, are very expensive and not a lot may be able to patronize as frequently due to its price.

Morales said local beef are way cheaper, however, their tenderness and quality may not be as perfect for steak as Angus or Wagyu meats. Lucky for them, he said, they were able to find a meat supplier that would be able to help them with both their quality and price concerns.

“One thing that really separates Gab’s Yard Steak House and Grill from the rest of other steakhouse­s is that we never freeze our meat. It’s chilled at the right temperatur­e to keep its freshness and its natural sweetness. Plus, our steaks are seasoned the natural way – just salt and pepper, for people to enjoy the natural taste of beef, and they get to choose how it’s served either the American Way, classic plating, or the Famous Filipino Favorite served in a sizzling plate,” said Morales.

Currently, their best seller is their 175 to 200 grams (g) ribeye steak which is available for P199. A lot of customers also order their 600 to 650g porterhous­e steak at only P699. Their 300 to 350g T-bone steak is available for P399 while 400 to 450g is at P499. Their 500 to 550g T-bone is sold at P599. All of their steak meals are served with vegetable side dishes, rice, and gravy.

Aside from their staple steak dishes, Gab’s Yard Steak House and Grill also offers Oxtail Kare-kare, Dinuguan, Classic Fried Chicken, Barbecue, beer matches such as Sisig, Nachos, Buffalo Wings, and Malasugue Kinilaw.
