Security in Marawi tackled

COTABATO CITY The Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (Armm) had called for an emergency Regional Peace and Order Council meeting to tackle the security situation in Marawi City.

RPOC Governor Mujiv Hataman and Department of Interior and Local Government-Armm Secretary Kirby Abdullah, along with military and police offcials, headed the meeting to come up with concrete steps to be undertaken in the Islamic CIty.

A report received by Hataman said that the Maute Terror Group (MTG) and Abu sayaff Group (ASG) were already joining forces and their number now grew to more than a hundred who are now causing troubles in Marawi City.

Aside from the burning of a chapel, school. city jail and residentia­l houses, around 100 prisoners were also able to escape from prison.

Authoritie­s are also doing their best to save a priest and a teacher who were held as hostages by the armed group.

DepartmenT of Social Welfare and Developmen­t (DSWD)-Armm, and Armm-Heart are continuous­ly monitoring and giving aid to the evacuees.

Hataman previously condemned the attacks made by the MTG and ASG in Marawi City and said that terrorism is not an act of a Muslim.

Hataman also urged everyone to pray that the situation in the city will go back to normal.
