NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley – Compostela Valley is edging closer to the creation of a provincial chamber for business and trade with the naming of interim trustees to represent all 11 municipalities of the province.
The first meeting of the interim trustees was called and presided over by former Davao City business chamber president John Gaisano, Jr. at the conclusion of the first Compostela Valley Business Leaders Forum held at the SP Session Hall on March 6. They were selected by members of each business sector of the municipalities that participated in the forum.
Gaisano earlier spoke at the forum on the creation and significance of business chambers to economic growth. He lauded the holding of the forum and the commitment of Gov. Jayvee Tyron L. Uy to fully support the business sector, his focus on helping small and medium enterprises, and his desire to get started in organizing the provincial business grouping right away.
The businessman said an ideal business chamber is a grouping of members representing diverse industries normally represented by a president in the provincial federation. But, he noted, “No organization could grow without initial operational funds. Resources may be provided by the local government unit, the provincial government, or the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).” The former business chamber head said the leadership of the organization must be committed and sincere and represent not only their specific industries but the different business industries of the local membership.
