Rays of silver linings in a nation’s bleak future

-

AS of this period, I cannot say that our country is doing alright, far from it we see almost a chaos in our midst. There are many flaws, the remedies for which are not yet done.

I remember a movement to which I belong called BANSALANGIN meaning a Nation Praying. Right now we need this. We need to pray to the Almighty to make our nation an ideal native land. Today we declare in faith that the Almighty is in our land leading us from death to life, from lies to truth, from poverty to prosperity, from corruption to honesty and selfless service. He is leading us from despair to hope, from fear to trust, from hatred to love and from war to peace. With these, your peace is in our hearts and our nation. Let us journey together to accomplish this goal. We are awaiting a new dawn in our country.

I start with all the positive commendable and beneficial promulgations of the President. We welcome the free education for Primary, Elementary, High School, and lately, he included the University level. We hope the government will have enough funds to accomplish this. Remember promulgation is the first step we will be convinced and thankful only after its implementation. Do you have a role for its success? Sure. Pay your taxes honestly as required.

Still about education I read about this news. There is a free two-day seminar for parent and child to instruct them on how to learn effectively. This is conducted by “Superchampz-The Academy of Champions”. Answer the following questions and know if your child need this assistance. Do your kids lack focus and motivation in their studies and life? Are you worried that your kids are not equipped with the right life skills to make it in this competitive world? Apply and enroll. Give your personal information as the parent (mother or father) and the child (son or daughter age 4 to 20).There are 27 sets to 2 sessions.

I was very impressed with all the good comments from who got this seminar. This is held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao. Finally, I see the antidote to the questionable traditional teaching method where teachers ask student to memorize the book from first to last chapter. They cover up the book instead of uncovering it. They repeat what was memorized when given a test. Sad - there was no learning done. Nothing reach the mind to the level of introspection and reasoning.

The K to 12 basic education plan is doomed to fail because it did not include the long range impact on the old system. The President is thinking about abolishing it.

President Duterte finally signed the Paris Agreement on Global Climate Change. At first he refused to sign this. We are in a third world country and we need the fossil fuel coal to run our industry. It is good that he realized that we the Philppines belongs to the family of nations which should decide in unison on what will be beneficial to all. I really do not agree with the attitude of the president to refuse alliances and just see to it that the Philippines will progress. This is ironic. I am most disturbed with his giving up alliance to USA and enhancing alliances with China and Russia.

Good news are the refund to be given to low earners from overcharged taxes in the last eight months. The SSS will pay the 1,000 additional pension payment to members this March. The ground breaking ceremony to build a bridge from Cebu to Corella was attended by the mayor and the President. I think this will be like the San Juanico Bridge. Strict traffic rules to be implemented including jaywalkers, wrong parking areas, and speeding. No smoking and liquor bans are strictly monitored with due punishments. There are discussions on changing the age limit for minors to be apprehended in committing crimes. I am for this including apprehension of the parents about their crimes committed by their children.

There are as many bad news which are a daily fare in the tri-media. Glaring are the news in censoring the President, no less, in crimes committed against humanity. Human Rights Watch is closely monitoring prior to implementing a case against the President with his EJK and killing of suspected drug related crimes.

Duterte’s defense stated that they are fighting criminality and this is not humanity. Think this over. They might have a point here. The same reason which the President gives in defending his culture of death and violence in checking crimes.

As I have been writing and commenting on in my last columns our country is in a period of unrest and uncertainty. With Duterte and his style of ruling it is a puzzle. He repeatedly condemned the Catholics for censuring him. He even said that we who side with the Catholics can go to heaven but he siding with his culture of death and violence can go to hell. I hope his mother is not disturbed in her grave hearing all these.

Duterte’s dream of achieving success for the Filipino alone without the intervention of any foreign countries who want to take advantage of us goes against his present status of his China and Russia friendly alliances. The future will prove this.

As I had written in the first part of this column, let us leave it to the Almighty who had allowed this presidency and his maverick ways of ruling to happen. He is not even aware of the independent policies of the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. He disqualified liberals from their leaderships in several committees. He wants to lobby on the passage of the death penalty law. I pray that our lawmakers will vote based on their conscience and reason and not the “envelop mental tokens” they receive. Reminder for a true statesman - your loyalty to your party ends where the loyalty to your countrymen begins. For comments text cell phone no.09202112534.
