Rody jeers at UN

-

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte slammed the United Nations for what he perceives as its interference in his war against drugs, as he challenged the UN experts to meet with him and talk in public to discuss their allegations over rampant extrajudicial killings (EJKs) of alleged drug-linked personalities in the country as violations of human rights.

“Have a conference with me in public. You can ask your questions, all that you want to know,” Duterte said before the media during a press briefing, early Sunday at Presidential Guest House (PGH) in Panacan, Davao City.

He then twitted those who accused the government of spearheading the EJKs that has seen bodies wrapped with plastic, gagged with tape, and other such macabre wrappings that he said is but a lot of waste of time.

“Why would police waste their time? It only takes a bullet,” he said.

Last week, the two UN human rights experts urged to stop the extrajudicial killings that have attributed with Duterte’s intensified effort to wipe out drugs in the country which have reached over 1000 cases of drug-related deaths.

Duterte criticized the UN’s meddling in his bloody drug campaign, which appalled UN experts. Duterte later invite the UN in a debate to clarify the rising death toll.

"I will explain extrajudicial killings, for international release, if you want," he said.

As the President, Duterte said, his job is to protect law-abiding citizens and not those criminals who killed innocent ones.

"I was never tasked by any law to protect criminals. I say this because 16 million people voted for me and I have a large margin between me and the next candidate,” he stressed.

“Maybe we just have to decide to separate from the United Nations,” Duterte threatened UN if they kept on meddling with the states affairs.

According to Duterte, the UN experts did not follow the proper protocol when they issued a statement against the government.

“Kung ganyan kayo kabastos eh umalis na kami diyan sa inyo,” he said. But only if UN returns all the contributions the country has made through the years.

“You do not just throw that kind of allegations or statement without even coming here,” he said. “You’re just relying on the reports of newspapers and tabloids. That’s what you do.”

“Let them talk to me and let them face me with hard facts,” he added.

Duterte again took the whole responsibility for all the police operations, which resulted to the numbers of slain people who are involved in illegal drug trade as they are merely following his command as the chief executive.

“I am willing to answer all of it. I accept full responsibility for what had happened because I was the one who ordered it,” he said.

Duterte, from the very first day in office, has ordered the law enforcers to go out and hunt for these criminals and arrest them if they surrendered peacefully. But if they resist, and make actions they have to kills them.

“I don’t want people in the government dying needlessly for doing his work for then you will be leaving behind a family and children,” he said. JCR
