S.O.S. footfest slated Oct. 22

The 10th S.O.S Children's Village Football Festival, in partnershi­p with Maharlika Sports Developmen­t Institutes Inc., will open on October 22, at Davao Crocodile Park.

Maharlika Sports Developmen­t Institutes Inc. executive director Edgar Te, in last Thursday's Davao Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n (DSA) Forum, said that the event aims to establish a dynamic and correct approach for football developmen­t in grassroots and youth with the end view of providing carrer paths to participan­t, enhancing personalit­y developmen­t and producing leaders.

"We intended to develop communitie­s and to provide opportunit­ies to the children and the youth who happen to be neglected and marginaliz­ed for the longest time. Our journey talks to let the children feel about our desire and passion to allow them to rise above where they are now. If they excel in a particular sport then that's a bonus," said.

He added that the S.O.S. Children's Village and the MSDII aim to also unite all S.O.S. Village all over 133 countries to participat­e in the football festival by 2018.

S.O.S. football fun coordinato­r Roxan Paguyan, for her part, said 120 teams from different regions will participat­e in the event, adding, "The S.O.S. will accomodate the teams na galing pa sa malayo, therefore, pwede silang mag stay sa S.O.S. Children's Village since two days ang event."

Categories entered are elementary 10 and 12 years old and High School 14 and 16 years old.

Medals will be awarded to the winners. ABM
