CESAFI TO HOLD FINALS IN VOLLEYBALL, F’BALL

USPF to host Cesafi men’s and women’s volleyball finals; UV guns for first football crown against USC today

-

It’s going to be a busy day for the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. as the finals for both football and volleyball will be played today at two venues.

In volleyball, defending men’s champion Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma earned a ticket to the championships and a chance to defend its title after taking the second finals slot with a win over Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Gym on Saturday, Nov. 17.

SWU swept CIT-U in three sets, 27-25, 25-15, 25-21, in the semifinal round. SWU improved 2-1 in the semifinals and grabbed the second finals spot after University of the Visayas (UV) already clinched the other slot last week after going 2-0. SWU’s only loss in the semifinal round is against UV.

SWU and UV play against each other in a best-of-three finals series. Game 1 is on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. at the USPF Gym.

Meanwhile, last year’s runner-up University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) attempts to claim the women’s division crown this year as it takes on University of San Carlos (USC) in a best-of-three finals series.

USJ-R and USC earned the two finals spots after going 2-0. USJ-R beat USPF, while USC eliminated defending champion SWU.

Game 1 of the women’s division will be played before the men’s division championships at 1 p.m.

The battle-for-third matches of SWU vs. USPF in the women’s division and CIT-U vs. USJ-R will be played in the morning.

In football, USC will go for a record-equalling fourth straight crown against the UV Green Booters at the Cebu City Sports Center at 2 p.m.

UV topped the elimination round after a comeback win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 2-1, last Nov. 11, while USC got the second spot after holding on to a 1-1 draw with USJ-R.
