Lot owner offers relocation site for Pajo fire survivors

A businessman who owns the lot that was hit by a fire in Barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu City earlier this month has offered to provide relocation sites for the displaced 400 homeowners.

On top of this, Mayor Paz Radaza said yesterday that the City will also provide financial assistance to survivors by the time they move to their new sites.

In a press conference, the mayor said there is a proposed development at the fire site by the lot owner, so the affected families can no longer go back.

Last March 16, houses in Sitio Paradise and a portion of Sitios Camansi and Kitchen in Pajo were destroyed in an afternoon blaze that killed two children, who were trapped inside a house.

The relocation sites will be in Barangays Basak and Babag.

The properties will have a total land area of 16,500 square meters.

Radaza said that the businessman thought that instead of just giving financial assistance to the survivors, it would be better to provide them with a relocation site, which they could eventually own.

Radaza said that the relocation site will have enough space for the roads so in case there are emergencies, it would be easier for help to reach them.

While the acquisition of the lot is being processed, Radaza initially planned to transfer the fire survivors to the covered court in Barangay Pusok. However, the affected families preferred to put up tents as their temporary shelter at the fire site.

The mayor talked to more than 300 homeowners who attended a meeting with her last Sunday to inform them about the planned relocation.
