Photo gallery honors 19 people from Cebu

Nineteen people from Cebu, including 12 women, were honored by Vice President Leni Robredo for inspiring others to persevere and to succeed.

The 19 champions of the “Lakas ng Kababaihan: Istorya ng Pagasa” launching yesterday showcased the stories of individual­s from Cebu who made a mark in their fields despite their humble beginnings.

In her speech, Vice President Robredo said she conceptual­ized the Istorya ng Pag-asa in response to the increasing negativity brought about by social media.

Launched in 2016, the Istorya ng Pag-asa is a traveling photo gallery featuring stories of ordinary Filipinos becoming successful in their own right.

Robredo hopes that those featured in the gallery, which is in the Capitol building, will inspire and empower others to become examples of hope.

Raquel Toquero-Choa is one of the 19 Cebuanos honored by Robredo.

Choa, the owner of Batirol and the Chocolate Chamber, has been promoting local cacao in the country and abroad.

Other honorees Another honoree is Maria Theresa Alcazar, a senior student of the Cebu Technologi­cal University (CTU) Argao campus.

The soon-to-be graduate of the state university was featured because of her tenacity to finish her studies despite her sad past.

A beneficiar­y of the Provincial Government’s Paglaum Scholarshi­p, Alcazar will graduate this month.

Other honorees include Mary Grace Pino, Merry Chris Famat, Francis Doble, Maricel Borromeo Amores, Juanito Bombase Luna, Jackerson Nicolasora Jr., Mary Ann Dimabayao, Aljen Rojas, the Pintoy Family of Asturias town, Irene Yusingco, Flora Mae Bracelino, Marevie Aricajos, Rovesper Sumaria, Araceli and Sergio Manipis Jr., Cesario Muñez, Dr. Imelda Almagro and Amelita Gatdula

The gallery is open to the public until April 13.
