The basketball tournament will kick off with the first leg in Cebu on March 10 at the Don Bosco Technology Center in Punta Princessa, Cebu City.
Basketball players in Visayas and Mindanao areas will have another event to look forward to this year when the FLY 3x3 Basketball League starts to visit eight different cities.
The tournament will have eight regional legs before the grand finals on Nov. 24 in Cebu City. The event is open to all cagers except varsity players and those who are playing in major leagues.
The basketball tournament will kick off with the first leg in Cebu on March 10 at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) in Punta Princessa, Cebu City.
“Every city we will accommodate 20 teams; the champion in every city will advance to the grand finals. Eight teams will be competing for the title in the grand finals which will be played in Cebu,” said event’s athletic director Jose Acha.
The champion in every city will win P25,000 worth of FLY gift certificates, and the winner in the grand finals will pocket P50,000 cash prize.
“The goal of this tournament is to showcase the skill of the Visayan and Mindanao players. We know that basketball here is very competitive. Hopefully on our first year we will be successful,” he said.
Acha added that they want to create a league that has a regional feel just like the now-defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA).
After Cebu, the next regional leg will be in Bohol on March 17 followed by Dumaguete City on April 21, Tacloban City on May 19, Ormoc City on June 23, Cagayan de Oro City on July 21, Iloilo City on Aug. 18 and Bacolod City on Sept. 22.
“We invite the players in Visayas and Mindanao for this event. It’s open to all ages, except varsity players and those who plays in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) D-League and other major tournaments,” said Acha.
Acha said that after this league, they’re planning to do another one with the schools in Visayas and Mindanao.
The sporting event is initiated by Cebuano and retired PBA player Dondon Hontiveros.
The organizers said that they will soon release the event’s poster containing the registration details on their social media page.
