Groups petition LTFRB to stop cap on TNVS units

What happens if the operation of transport network vehicle services (TNVS) in Cebu will be limited to only 500 units?

Loss of income for operators and drivers, and absence of comfort and convenience for the riding public are the possible scenarios a group of operators and driver-members of transport network companies (TNCs) Grab, Uber and U-Hop are seeing as an outcome of the new development.

Because of this, TNVS Cebu is gathering signatures for their online petition to stop the implementation of a Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) memorandum circular limiting their operations to only 500 vehicles.

LTFRB Memorandum Circular 2018-003 only allows 45,700 TNVS units nationwide to take passengers.

Of the number, some 45,000 slots will be allotted for Metro Manila while only 500 and 200 slots will be opened for Cebu and Pampanga, respectively.

“A lot will lose their means of livelihood and many of the riding public will not be able to enjoy the safety, security and comfort that TNVS gives. Cebu needs more than 500 TNVS,” said Ma. Trinidad Valenzuela, a representative of TNVS Cebu.

Another group representative, Raul Marquez, said the petition is independently initiated by TNVS drivers and operators in Metro Cebu.

At present, they have already gathered around 30,000 signatures.

TNVS Cebu sponsored a holy mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral last Thursday and held a unity walk from the church to Plaza Independencia.
