LTO 7, LTFRB 7 look out for defective buses

- RTF

A bus operator was ordered to stop running one of its dilapidated buses until it can repair the vehicle.

This came after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 launched “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos” as part of their preparations for the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day.

Officials and personnel of both agencies started their inspection last Tuesday at the Cebu South Bus Terminal in Cebu City. The Cebu North Bus Terminal in Mandaue City was inspected yesterday.

LTFRB 7 Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon said they decided to prioritize the inspection of buses to ensure the riding public’s safety as thousands are expected to go home to their provinces.

During the inspection, the two agencies discovered that one bus was still transporting passengers despite its dilapidated condition.

Cuizon said they told the operator that they will not be allowed to operate the bus until all its defective parts are repaired.

For additional security and safety measure, a help desk was also put up at the the terminal to assist passengers. Operators who wish to ply outside their designated routes may also get special permits from the help desk.

Cuizon also warned operators not to overcharge passengers.

LTO 7 Regional Director Alita Pulga, for her part, said they are keen on making sure that buses don’t carry passengers beyond its seating capacity. She warned that drivers of buses with standing passengers will be issued citation tickets. /
