■ LAPU-LAPU POLICE TO HOLD FUN RUN FOR COLLEAGUE HURT DURING IRONMAN RACE

-

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office is trying to raise funds to help pay for PO2 Brian Lou Guillen’s medical bills by holding a fun run. Guillen is still in the intensive care unit of Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City. He had not yet opened his eyes, as of 3 p.m. yesterday, but he was already breathing on his own. He was one of Tribu Lapu-Lapu’s participants for the male relay category of Cobra Ironman 70.3 last Sunday. He ran the 21-kilometer race. He collapsed as he was nearing the finish line apparently as a result of dehydration. Proceeds of the fun run will be handed over to Guillen’s wife. The Lapu-Lapu City Government also extended financial assistance to the Guillen family.

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) will hold a fun run to raise funds for PO2 Brian Lou Guillen’s medical bills.

Chief Insp. Junnel Caadlawon, chief for operations of LCPO, said Guillen was still in the intensive care unit of Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City.

Guillen was one of Tribu LapuLapu’s participants for the male relay category of Cobra Ironman 70.3 last Sunday. He did the 21-kilometer run. As he was nearing the finish line, he collapsed.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Caad- lawon said Guillen had not yet opened his eyes.

In order to help their colleague, the LCPO decided to hold a fun run on Aug. 19.

Caadlawon said they will meet with the organizer of the fun run to discuss the preparations. The details of the registration will be announced after the meeting.

The proceeds of the fun run will be given to Guillen’s wife to help pay for his hospital bills.

Earlier, Supt. Rey Tiempo, the deputy city director for administration, said Guillen, who is as- signed in the LCPO-Police Community Relations Branch (PCRB), suffered from heat stroke, according to the latter’s wife.

Though there is no blood clot in Guillen’s brain, his kidneys and brain suffered from dehydration. He remained unconscious as of yesterday but he was already breathing on his own without the aid of any machine.

Lapu-Lapu City, through City Tourism Officer Hembler Mendoza, sent financial assistance to the Guillen family last Monday, as did the LCPO.
