The organizers of the Thirsty Football Cup turns it up a notch yet again by making the 14th edition of Cebu’s premier football festival by making it a charity event.

Unlike in the previous 13 years, this year will be different because each team of the 14 divisions of the 14th Thirsty Football Cup on Feb. 24 to 26 at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) will be playing for a charitable institution. Thirsty will dole out to the champions’ chosen charitable institution.

“To make it more fun, we want to give back to society and play football for a cause. Each team will choose a charitable institu- tion,” said Thirst Football Cup tournament manager Neil Montesclaros. “It will continue. We want it to be a mainstay to play football and someone benefits. You win for a cause.”

Aside from being a charity event, there is also a new division this year, the Mix Open.

The Mix Open is a division mixed between men and women, wherein at least three women each from both sides must be in at the same pitch in a match.

“We want to add some fun with the Mix Open,” said Montesclaros. “We’ll see how it works.”

The other divisions are the Men’s Open, Ladies’ Open, Mix Under-7, Mix Under-9, Mix Under-11, Boys Under-13, Girls Under-15, Boys Under-15, Boys Under-17, Girls Under-17, Boys Under-19, Girls Under-19 and 38-and-Above.

The photographs of the past 13 seasons will be displayed in a series of photo exhibit at Ayala Center Cebu, Robinsons Galleria and SM Seaside City. There will still be a photo contest this year.

On the other hand, Thirsty will also hold a different event, the Thirsty Summer Run on March 26 at the Cebu Business Park. The run will feature three divisions —the 12K, 6K and 3K. /
