Waminal, Moya in Bakbakan

Waminal, 22, has won first six fights as a pro, while Moya, 21, won by stoppage win in last fight

PROMISING young pugs Jess Rhey Waminal and Magarito Moya face off in the main event of “Bakbakan sa San Fernando 2” this Saturday night in San Fernando.

The 22-year-old Waminal is out to prove that he has a future in the sport with a win against a fellow talented prospect in Moya.

A standout when he was still in the amateur ranks, Waminal won his first six fights as a pro. He walked away with a split draw with Wilford Wade in his seventh fight before suffering his first career setback, a unanimous decision defeat to Carlo Demecillo.

Waminal has bounced back ever since, winning his last three fights. He is coming off a split decision over erstwhile undefeated Joe Tejones.

The 21-year-old Moya’s last fight is a stoppage win over journeyman Rogen Flores. Before that, he suffered a 10th round technical knockout to Ryan Rey Ponteras.

Waminal is 9-1-1 with five knockouts, while Moya is 9-2 with three knockouts.

The undercard features three more profession­al fights that young features up-and-coming fighters.

18-year-old Esneth Domingo (4-0, 3 KOs) faces off with Robert Ates (4-4, 2 KOs), unbeaten hard-hitter Christian Bacolod (5-0, 5 KOs) locks horns with Ernesto Abera (4-2) and 19-year-old Lorenz Labrada (3-0, 2 KOs) trades leathers with Elmer Liboon (2-4, 1 KO).

The show also features eight amateur bouts.
